OBJECTIVE
This project was created as part of a university requirement to design and develop a basic game. Our goal was to explore creativity in visual storytelling, character creation, and overall aesthetic while learning the fundamentals of game design.
CHALLENGE
The main challenge was to create cohesive and engaging visuals that captured the balance between a fun, school-themed adventure and a light horror zombie concept. The characters and logo needed to express the game’s playful tone while maintaining clarity and consistency across different visual assets.
APPROACH/ SOLUTION
I designed the logo and character lineup using a Cut-Out Cartoon, Chibi art style, giving the visuals a lighthearted and approachable tone. The characters included Charlston, Zombie Charlston, and various supporting zombies, each designed with expressive features and simple, bold colors.
The logo was crafted with a distressed texture and key-shaped elements to emphasize the “escape” concept. Additionally, I created a Canva presentation to showcase the visuals and game overview, ensuring a clear and polished delivery during the academic presentation.
RESULTS/ OUTCOME
The final designs successfully captured the game’s playful and spooky theme while maintaining visual consistency. The presentation received positive feedback from professors and peers for its strong concept, creativity, and appealing art direction. The combination of the Chibi-style characters and bold logo design effectively represented the game’s unique personality and narrative tone.
